Beta-carotene is a provitamin A and natural plant pigment from the carotenoid group. It gives the flesh of many pumpkins its orange color.

In the context of Styrian pumpkin seed oil: Beta-carotene is found primarily in pumpkin flesh. In the seeds and oil, it is present in smaller amounts. It belongs to the fat-soluble pigments and is converted into vitamin A by the body as needed.
